Melrose is a great little town in the Flinders Ranges, tucked in below Mount Remarkable. Like every pub everywhere, the North Star is the oldest of something somewhere. In this case, it claims to be the oldest licensed pub in the Flinders Ranges.

Both inside and out, it looks pretty interesting.

It is great to finally see some shots coming through with extended shutter release...and also like the Seabreeze Hotel shot, although I would've liked to see it with a little a longer exposure.

If anyone needs some advice on this, please ask away as that is what I like about photography...knowledge.

Agreed, however the neons and lights are already blown out. I have longer and shorter exposure versions however that one seems to have the best "balance".

As Lance pointed out to me on another thread of Andrew's that Andrew has already posted them here. I have been away for a few days so hadn't caught up with all the piccies on this thread. I agree the Seabreeze is a top photo and will be very hard to beat. Andrew, well done, you take excellent photos.

aj4wd.

There is a program, called Photmatix that brackets shots together.

If you are keen to get a shot with better exposure, have a look at the web site...some fantastic results !!!

Thanks Dunco
These are pretty much out of the camera shots as I put them up not long after I got home. A bit of spot filtering will tone down the neons or a bit of layer work in photoshop could even out the exposure too. Although I have played around with HDR software (like photomatix) I dont like the overall "fake" feel of the results. This is probably because Ive seen too many that are way overdone but when used with some subtlety the effect is quite good.
My personal preference is to try and get it right in the camera and represent what was actually there, which is why I dont clone out street lamps, power poles and other annoyances.

Thanks too to Motherhen and others for your kind comments and Im glad you enjoy my pics.

cheers

Andrew

Boy when looking through some of the images posted here - not too many we havent been too - might have to re- think our lifestyle  but in saying it is one of our favourite pastimes - visiting some of the great Aussie Pubs. Got me thinking though of what other images of pubs I had that hadn't already been posted - but managed to find one. The Hebel Hotel at Hebel is certainly one of the most unique and the photo taken inside the bar - no you are not imagining it - the bar does run down hill. The artistry work on the outside is done by a guy at Lightening Ridge (his name escapes me)
